How it works
Yearly spending = doctor visits + medicines + tests + insurance premium. Doctor visits = all family members × visits per person × fee per visit. Medicines = monthly amount × 12. Check-ups and tests = (adults + seniors) × cost per adult. The monthly set-aside is the yearly total ÷ 12.
The 5-year view grows this year's spending by the medical cost rise you enter: year y = this year × (1 + rise)^(y − 1). Your cover in 10 years, in today's money = sum insured ÷ (1 + rise)^10, which shows how rising costs shrink fixed cover. Cover per person = sum insured ÷ family members. Questions
How much should a family save for medical expenses?
Start with your own yearly total from this planner and divide by 12; that is a sensible monthly set-aside. Also keep a separate emergency fund for costs insurance may not pay. Your doctor and an insurance adviser can help with specific needs.
Why does my health cover lose value?
Medical costs tend to rise each year. If they rise 10% a year, a fixed cover buys less over time. The planner divides your cover by (1 + rise)^10 to show its worth in today's money. Review your cover regularly with an adviser.
