How it works
Hours by hand each year = students × minutes per card × report cards per year ÷ 60. With a portal, teachers only enter marks, assumed at about 30 seconds per subject per student, while totals, grades and printing are automatic. Portal hours = students × (subjects × 0.5 minutes) × report cards per year ÷ 60.
If your current minutes per card are already lower than the portal estimate, the tool uses your figure, so savings are never negative. Hours saved = hours by hand − portal hours. Teaching days saved = hours saved ÷ 6, based on 6-hour days. Value of time saved = hours saved × the cost of one teacher hour.

Questions
How long does it take to make report cards by hand?
It depends on totals, grades, remarks and printing. Many schools spend 15 to 30 minutes per card. Time one teacher doing a few cards and use that figure in the calculator for a fair estimate for your school.
Why does it assume 30 seconds per subject?
With marks entry online, a teacher types one mark per subject per student, and the software does totals, grades and layout. Thirty seconds per mark is a planning assumption; change minutes per card if your process differs.
