Trader margin calculator and daily rate check
Work out one lot from start to finish: purchase, mandi or market fee, commission, labour, transport and weight loss, then the profit and margin you keep. The calculator also gives the break-even selling rate and what to pay farmers. It is free, needs no sign-up, and your numbers stay on your device.
How it works
Purchase = quantity × buying rate, which is the amount due to farmers for this lot. Charges = purchase × (mandi fee % + commission %) + quantity × labour per unit + transport for the whole lot. Total cost = purchase + charges. Any unit works, such as quintals, kilograms or bags, as long as you use it throughout.
Sellable quantity = quantity × (1 − weight loss %). Sales value = sellable quantity × selling rate. Profit = sales value − total cost, and margin = profit ÷ sales value × 100. The break-even selling rate = total cost ÷ sellable quantity; selling below it loses money on this lot. Profit per unit = profit ÷ sellable quantity.
How to use it
- Enter the quantity bought, buying rate and selling rate per unit.
- Add the mandi fee and commission percentages, labour per unit and transport.
- Enter the expected weight loss percentage from drying or handling.
Questions
How do I calculate my break-even selling rate?
Add the purchase cost and all charges, then divide by the quantity you will actually have to sell after weight loss. The calculator shows this rate so you know the lowest price that does not lose money.
Why include weight loss?
Produce can lose weight through drying and handling, so you sell less than you bought. Even 0.5% to 1% loss raises your cost per unit sold. Enter your usual loss to see its effect on profit.
Are mandi fee rates built in?
No. Mandi fees and commission differ by market and by state, and they can change, so you enter your own percentages. Check the current rates at your market before trading.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up and runs in your browser. Your numbers stay on your device unless you choose to copy the result, share it on WhatsApp, save a PDF or send it to us.
