How it works

To add tax: tax = amount × rate ÷ 100, and total = amount + tax. To remove tax from an amount that already includes it: amount before tax = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and tax = total − amount before tax. Removing tax this way is not the same as taking the rate off the total; for example, 18% of a tax-included price is more than the GST inside it.

For India, the calculator offers 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%. When the buyer is in your state, the tax is split in half as CGST and SGST; when the buyer is in another state, the full amount is IGST. Built-in VAT rates are UAE 5% or 0%, Saudi Arabia 15% or 0%, Oman 5% or 0%, Bahrain 10% or 0% and UK 20%, 5% or 0%. Europe and Other let you type any rate.

How to use it

  1. Choose the country, then tap the tax rate or type your own rate.
  2. Say whether your amount is before tax or already includes tax.
  3. Enter the amount; for India, pick same state or another state.

Questions

How do I calculate GST included in a price?

Divide the price by 1 plus the rate. For 18% GST, divide by 1.18 to get the amount before tax; the difference is the GST. Choose 'Including tax' in the calculator and it does this for you, with the CGST and SGST or IGST split.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

In India, a sale within the same state carries CGST and SGST, each half of the GST rate. A sale to another state carries IGST at the full rate. The total tax is the same; only the split changes. Check your own cases with your accountant.

Which GST or VAT rate applies to my product?

Rates differ by product and service, and they can change. This tool is for quick estimates and general information only. Check the correct rate for your goods or services with a tax professional or the official tax authority before you bill or file.
