Website speed test and free website health check

Enter your website address to see how it performs on a phone. The check runs Google's own PageSpeed test and shows scores for speed, Google readiness (SEO), accessibility and best practices, plus the first things to fix. It is free and needs no sign-up; only the address you enter is sent to Google for the test.

How it works

The tool asks Google PageSpeed Insights to load your site as a mobile phone would and score four areas from 0 to 100: performance (speed), SEO, accessibility and best practices. The overall score is the average of the four. It also shows how long the first content and the main content take to appear, known as First Contentful Paint and Largest Contentful Paint.

Suggestions come from Google's list of improvement opportunities, sorted by the time they could save, with the top three shown. If SEO scores under 90, the tool reminds you to give every page a clear title and description, and it flags sites not on https. If Google cannot test the site, a quick 8-question self-check gives a score instead: yes answers ÷ 8 × 100.

How to use it

  1. Type your website address, for example yourwebsite.com.
  2. Press 'Check my website' and wait 20 to 40 seconds.
  3. Read the scores and fix the top suggestions first.

Questions

How do I check my website speed on mobile?

Enter your address and press 'Check my website'. The tool runs Google's PageSpeed test on the phone version of your site and shows a speed score plus the time until content appears. Scores of 90 and above are strong, 50 to 89 need work.

What does the SEO score mean?

It is Google's check of basic technical items that help search engines read your page, such as titles, descriptions and readable text. A high score does not guarantee rankings, but a low score points to simple fixes worth making.

Why did the test fail for my site?

Google sometimes times out or cannot reach a site, for example if it is down, very slow or blocks tests. The tool then offers a quick self-check you can answer yourself. Try the full test again later.

What data does this tool send?

Only the website address you enter, which goes to Google's PageSpeed service to run the test. The tool is free and needs no sign-up. Results stay on your device unless you choose to copy, share, save as PDF or send them to us.
